Five Must-See Movies About Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the most popular touristic destinations in the U.S., and it has also inspired many movie makers. There have been countless movies made about the Sin City and whether you are a film buff or simply want to see what Las Vegas is like, these are five must-see movies.

Casino

This 1995 movie directed by Martin Scorsese shows what goes on behind closed doors and portrays what life is like for casino owners. The movie has its share of drugs and violence and is a fascinating portrayal of 1970s Las Vegas. This is a must-see if you are a fan of mob movies or want to see what casinos looked like in the 1970s.

The Hangover

This movie gave a brand new meaning to the saying ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’ The Hangover is a 2009 comedy where four friends wake up in Las Vegas after a bachelor party and can’t remember what happened. This is a fun movie to watch with a group of friends, and this is an excellent introduction to Las Vegas since the four friends’ adventures will take them through the most recognizable landmarks and casinos.

Ocean’s Eleven

The 2011 action flick is a remake of a 1960 movie. Both versions are worth watching and checking out both movies is a fun way to compare how much casinos have changed. Ocean’s Eleven is not the most realistic movie made about Las Vegas, but watching a well-organizing group of professionals robs casinos is always fun.

Leaving Las Vegas

This 1995 drama is set in Las Vegas and even though this is not the most fun movie made about Sin City, it is a fascinating look into alcoholism and possibly Nicolas Cage’s best movie. The film follows an alcoholic screenwriter as he enters a relationship with a prostitute. This is not a good choice if you are feeling down but Leaving Las Vegas is a movie that will make you think about human nature and relationships.

Last Vegas

This 2013 buddy movie follows four aging friends who meet in Las Vegas for a bachelor party. The movie has its funny moments but also offers some reflection into what aging is like and how it affects friendships. Hotels, casinos, and other Las Vegas landmarks are the perfect backdrops for the story that follows the four friends as they come to terms with issues that have plagued them for their lives and finally find closure.

These five movies are fun to watch and will give you an idea of what Las Vegas is like. You should add them to your watch list if you are preparing a trip to Vegas or just got back from Sin City and already miss the casinos. You can enjoy these movies even if you have never been to Vegas and simply want to learn more about the city and get an idea of what it looks and feels like.
